Biography
Rapskallion have inticed audiences around the globe, with their own brand of vaudevillian, cabaret, junkyard gypsy blues for over half a decade.
Reminiscent of 20's Paris Bohemia transported to a Romanian tavern and then set adrift on the high seas, their original music is strongly influenced by the music of Eastern Europe, Greece, France and Spain as well as hip hop and hobo jazz.
Rapskallion have toured Europe extensively for the last two years, playing at some of the top festivals in the UK, France and Germany, and were funded by Arts Victoria to do this in 2010. They have completed residencies at The Famous Spiegel Tent, and also at the National Gallery of Victoria, as part of The Salvador Dali exhibition in 2009. They have undertaken two Australian East Coast tours, one of which culminated in rapturous performances at Woodford Folk Festival, 2009. They are currently recording their second album in Byron Bay, which will be released in November 2011.
Rapskallion have just been invited to perform at this year's Splendour in The Grass, and have also been asked to curate, and perform four shows in September at the "Succession of Art" exhibit, at the National gallery of Victoria.
Rapskallion are known for their flamboyant and theatrical stage antics, their decrepit finery, and their ability to whip a dancing crowd into a sweaty frenzy. Their collaborations with high class performance artists, ensure that a Rapskallion show is not just a musical concert, but a theatrical, romantic extravaganza, of timeless proportions.
